What this direction can involve
Creative work is more than waiting for inspiration. It often involves understanding an audience, responding to a brief, making several versions and explaining a choice. Visual design and communication provide different ways to practise this. A strong-looking outcome still needs to serve a purpose.
Try a small experiment
Choose a school or community activity and make a one-page invitation. Produce two versions for different audiences. Keep the information accurate, change the emphasis and ask someone which version is clearer and why.
Keep some evidence
Keep both versions and the feedback. Record one decision about hierarchy, wording or imagery that changed after you heard from the audience.
Questions to reflect on
- Which part do I enjoy: ideas, making, editing or presenting?
- Can I explain my choices in terms of the audience?
- What portfolio or entrance requirements does the exact course use?
Connect it to learning
Investigate design, media, communication and related programmes. Check portfolio expectations, practical teaching and assessment formats. Creative interest can also complement business or technology study.
