What this direction can involve
An investigative task begins with an uncertainty. You might organise data, compare explanations, test a piece of software or work out why a result changed. The shared habit is checking evidence before settling on an answer. Research, computing and analytical work overlap here, but the tools and qualifications differ by role.
Try a small experiment
Create a small table of your study time over five days. Calculate the daily average, identify one pattern and write two possible explanations. Suggest one extra piece of information that would help you test those explanations.
Keep some evidence
Save the table and separate observation from interpretation. The useful result is not a flattering pattern; it is a clear question that you know how to investigate next.
Questions to reflect on
- Do I enjoy working through uncertainty?
- Which kinds of evidence interest me: numbers, code, experiments or people?
- How much quantitative work is in the course I am considering?
